On May 16, 2024, a court hearing was supposed to take place regarding the unlawful Decree of the President of Ukraine imposing sanctions on the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshhorod and Chornobyl. The lawyer of the bishop, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, published a video recorded near the courthouse in his Telegram channel.

The hearing has been postponed to July 1st because the lawyers of the bishop were unable to familiarize themselves with the case materials.

"The state classified the documents based on which sanctions were imposed on Metropolitan Pavel. A lawyer who has access to state secrets was involved. We hope that by the next hearing, we will be able to familiarize ourselves with all the materials in this case," said Fr. Nikita.

Commenting on the situation, Metropolitan Pavel thanked God for the opportunity to "at least come closer to those saints who suffered for the name of Christ", as well as all the believers for their prayers.

As the UOJ reported, Metropolitan Pavel's precautionary measure had been mitigated.
