UOC Сhancellor meets with Serbian Patriarch Porfirije

On May 19, 2021, a delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, headed by the UOC Chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Boryspil and Brovary, met in Belgrade with His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, reports the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC.

The delegation, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, also included the Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich and Protodeacon Vadim Novinsky. On the Serbian side, the meeting was attended by the Patriarch's vicar, Bishop Stephen of Remesiana, and the head of the Patriarch's Cabinet, Deacon Alexander Prashchevich.

Metropolitan Anthony, on behalf of the Primate of the UOC, conveyed greetings to Patriarch Porfirije on the election of the Serbian Primate to the throne and wishes for God's help in his new ministry. The Primate of the Serbian Church thanked for the greetings and the visit and noted that this was his first meeting as a Patriarch with the bishop of another Local Church.

During the meeting, they discussed the current situation in the Orthodox world, the church situation in Ukraine, as well as the development of relations between the Ukrainian and Serbian Orthodox Churches.

The Ukrainian church delegation also visited the St Sava Cathedral in Belgrade.

As reported, a delegation from the Vinnytsia Eparchy of the UOC went on a visit to the Serbian Church.
