On March 7, 2024, the Synod of the OCU sent appeals to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Romanian Patriarch Daniel regarding the creation of the 'Romanian Orthodox Church in Ukraine'. This was reported by the press service of the OCU.

The document notes that "according to canonical order, only the Orthodox Church of Ukraine has canonical jurisdiction on the territory of Ukraine, and no other."

"The OCU referred to itself as a 'loving mother-church for all Orthodox believers in Ukraine,' which 'cares for the spiritual needs of Orthodox faithful belonging to the Romanian national and church tradition,' and reminded of the establishment of the 'Orthodox Romanian Vicariate of the OCU' for them.

Metropolitan Epifaniy expressed hope that the disputed issue would be resolved between the Romanian Patriarchate and the OCU "in the spirit of fraternal love, canonical order, and the provisions of the tomos on the autocephaly of the OCU."

As reported by the UOJ, the OCU called the establishment of the 'Romanian Church in Ukraine' a "brazen intrusion".
