The Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office appealed to the court with a lawsuit against the UOC and Kaniv City Council to "return" to the state a land plot of almost 4200 square metres, on which the Dormition Cathedral in Kaniv is located, reports the press service of the Prosecutor's Office.

They noted that during the transfer of the land plot to the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC allegedly violated the requirements of the legislation. In particular, according to the agency, "the intended purpose of the land plot was changed from historical and cultural to public land".

In the lawsuit, the prosecutors demand to declare illegal and cancel the decision of the Kaniv City Council to give the land to the UOC, as well as to invalidate the act on the right of permanent use of the land plot and cancel its state registration.

At the same time, the agency reminded that the court is currently considering the case on the "return" of the Dormition Cathedral to the state.

As reported, Smila City Council demanded to "cancel the legal registration of the Moscow church".
