On February 11, 2024, with the blessing of the Metropolises of Thessaloniki, Neapolis and Nea Krini, a large meeting in support of the traditional family was held at the Velideon Conference Centre in Thessaloniki, reports Romfea.

More than a thousand people gathered at the Velideon Conference Centre, with many watching the event from the yard. Several hierarchs, and representatives of monastic and missionary brotherhoods attended the event.

Speeches were made by several representatives of the hierarchy, notably Metropolitan Ieronimos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, as well as Magdalena Tsolaki, the Professor of Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who spoke about the role of the family in modern times from the point of view of a Christian mother and a Christian doctor.

Those present voiced their opposition to the Greek government's intention to legalise same-sex marriage and the subsequent possibility of procreation in same-sex couples.

The assembly called on the authorities to listen to the voice of the Church and said that "this bill is a 'red line' for the Christian people of the city of St Demetrios and our entire country."

As reported, protests against the legalisation of same-sex marriage began in Greece.
