The Cabinet of Ministers has supported a bill that proposes to grant LGBT couples the same rights as traditional families.
MP from the "Holos" party, Inna Sovsun, reported on her Facebook page that the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine have supported bill No. 9103, "On the Institute of Registered Partnerships".
Sovsun noted that the ministries changed their stance and supported the bill after she made corresponding requests to them.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice stated that the adoption of the bill would allow Ukraine to "fulfil its obligations under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights."
"The Ministry of Justice views the bill as the first progressive step toward constructive dialogue with society. Its goal is to create a legal mechanism for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms," wrote the people's deputy.
As previously reported, a bill on the registration of same-sex partnerships was submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament.
