On September 15, 2023, the head of Phanar, Patriarch Bartholomew, said that the life of the Church is “applied ecology,” reports orthodoxianewsagency.gr.

"The Church itself is a victory over all those forces that ideologically and practically contribute to the destruction of the environment, such as greed, human capriciousness, egocentrism, and indifference to our neighbors. In essence, the life of the Church is 'applied ecology,'" said the leader of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

He emphasized that "the protection of nature and genuine respect for one's neighbor are inseparable" and that "neglecting concern for those around us and nature is a disregard for God's commandments."

"God is glorified where there is solidarity and love, where we strive to protect nature," he added.

Previously, it was reported that according to the leader of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, ecology is the greatest challenge for humanity.
