On September 14, 2023, the Kyiv Court of Appeal rejected the appeal of the community of the Tithe Monastery in Kyiv and ordered the authorities to demolish the temple, the Ministry of Culture reports on its Facebook page.

“The Northern Economic Court of Appeal considered the appeal of the Religious Community of the UOC MP Tithe Temple against the decision of the Economic Court of the city of Kyiv dated February 15, 2023, in case No. 910/9385/20, and confirmed the obligation to clear the site from the illegally built temple,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Culture called this court decision “another victory in the fight for our cultural heritage” and thanked the judges “for a fair decision.”

According to cultural workers, the building of the temple “violates the ensemble of the historical archaeological complex ‘Tithe Church’,” and the very construction of the church next to the foundation of the historical Tithe Church “contradicts the intended use” of the land plot.

The Ministry of Culture also stated that “the institution located in the building has been spreading anti-Ukrainian narratives and working for the aggressor country for 14 years in a row.”

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that former Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko promised to dismantle the Church of the Tithes.
