On November 19, 2020, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a law providing for administrative responsibility for the absence of masks in public places and transport, reports the press service of the head of state.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law "On Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine regarding the Prevention of the Spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)" on November 6, 2020.

According to the law, "for staying in public buildings, structures, public transport during the quarantine without wearing personal protective equipment, in particular respirators or protective masks" will be fined from ₴ 170 to ₴ 255.

The president's website says that “the purpose of the law is to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease among citizens of Ukraine” and it “will help increase the social responsibility of citizens and protect their health and life, as well as reduce the number of cases of coronavirus disease, which will help prevent an uncontrolled increase in the number of COVID-19 patients and the overload of healthcare facilities."

It is emphasized that masks must cover the nose and mouth and can be self-made.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Ukrainian authorities intend to introduce QR codes for all public places in Ukraine.
