The authorities illegally re-registered the Intercession parish of the UOC in Kyiv’s microdistrict of Bortnychi on the basis of a "decision" of a raider meeting, which was organised by the OCU "priest" Vitaliy Matiyashchuk, said the rector of the parish Archpriest Alexy Hodun.
The illegal meeting took place on 9 June 2023 in the square near the temple of the OCU. Neither the rector nor the parishioners of the Intercession temple were invited to the event and were not even informed about it.
"Later, an illegal re-registration was carried out, which I learnt about while on the border when I was carrying charity aid from the Polish Orthodox Church," said Father Alexy. “Changes were made regarding the head of the religious community, who for some reason became Vitaliy Volodymyrovych Matiyashchuk. All these actions were carried out by a state registrar named Shepel".
In connection with the incident, the UOC community filed several applications to the police and then went to court.
