The authorities can ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by adopting a law or issuing a presidential decree based on a relevant decision of the National Security and Defense Council. This was stated in an interview with glavcom.ua by the MP of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People party Oleh Dunda.

“The solution to the issue of the UOC-MP lies in several planes: either this is the adoption of a bill or the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, on the basis of which a decree of the President is issued,” the MP said. “From my point of view, the most effective (and most feasible) is the second option, when the decision of the National Security and Defense Council will be made. No edits, no complaints or political manifestations at the conciliation board."

Dunda predicts that "most likely, in the near future, in a month or two, this issue will be resolved in either way, and the UOC-MP will be outlawed in Ukraine."

As reported by the UOJ, on July 28, 2023, a government bill to ban religious organizations "affiliated with centers of influence" in the aggressor state was removed from the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada. According to MP Anatoly Burmych, this happened due to the lack of a sufficient number of votes to pass the law.
