On July 19, 2023, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow stated that the Patriarchate of Constantinople is one of the weapons of the struggle against Orthodoxy.

During a report at the Bishops' Meeting of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill stated that "today’s ongoing military actions are the result of a long civilizational conflict."

He is sure that "in the circumstances from which this conflict began, we see an undoubted religious dimension: irrational hatred towards the peoples professing Orthodoxy."

“Unfortunately, the Patriarchate of Constantinople has become one of the weapons of the struggle against Orthodoxy. For a long time, with the support of political forces outside the Church and at their instigation, its leading hierarchs were preparing to dissolve the unity of Orthodoxy, conducted secret negotiations and wove intrigues,” the head of the Russian Orthodox Church said.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church told whether it is possible to receive communion where he is not commemorated.
