The Primate of the Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Georgios, said in an interview with acistampa that "Ecumenical Councils have determined that the northern regions, Asia Minor and Europe fall under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate." Which Councils adopted such definitions, the head of the Church of Cyprus did not specify.
The bishop also said that the Church of Constantinople has the right to grant autocephaly to Churches "previously under its jurisdiction". For this reason, "in accordance with the moral and ecclesiastical rules in force in the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Church of Cyprus recognises the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in granting autocephaly to Ukraine," the hierarch said.
The fact that other Churches do not recognise Dumenko's structure, the Archbishop of Cyprus explained by "Russia's economic influence", and expressed confidence that "soon all Churches will recognise the rights of the Ukrainian Church (OCU – Ed.) in the Orthodox community".
As reported, the Cypriot Primate said, "It is our sacred duty to preserve Greek traditions".
