The head of the State Service for Ethnopolitics Viktor Yelensky at the briefing of Ukrinform positively assessed the transition of the OCU and Uniates to the new church calendar.
According to Yelensky, life according to the Julian calendar caused "bifurcation" in the OCU and the UGCC. Christians of these denominations faced pains of conscience when they were forced to fast on Independence Day or New Year's Day. "Now this is being removed," Yelensky concluded.
According to the DESS head, distancing oneself from Russia, "where the Julian calendar is a matter of principle" is also important.
As reported, Yelensky said that 80 UOC communities "transferred" to the OCU in April.
