On August 17, 2020, Metropolitan Luke of Zaporozhye and Melitopol, the bishop of the UOC, published an appeal to the authorities and residents of the city in connection with the planned LGBT parade in Zaporozhye on his Telegram channel.

“On September 20, 2020, the so-called “equality march” is planned in our city, which aims, according to its organizers, “to establish civil equality for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation ”. This formulation already contains a false definition since in our country representatives of sexual minorities already have the same rights and freedoms as other members of society,” the bishop writes.

According to him, now “there is an introduction into the consciousness, primarily of our youth, of new standards of thinking and behaviour, which are designed to destroy traditional family values. This project is one of the components of the global programme for the corruption of people and the de-Christianization of humanity as a whole. This programme includes the fight against traditional family values, patriotism, as well as a religious worldview. The concepts of good and evil, which are the basis of family education, are being replaced by the philosophy of hedonism and by changing human behaviour in general."

“The true goal of the LGBT movement is to break the basic moral principles established by God and impose new moral norms. This goal is achieved through the elimination of the line between the norm and perversion. The idea is being introduced into the mass consciousness that sexual intercourse, in any of its forms and varieties, is only a way of receiving pleasure, and not a means for procreation. The ultimate goal of this programme is the fight against a person who respects his/her human dignity, the destruction of the state as a form of people interacting, according to the rules of the law, with each other, and turning it into a set of easily controllable individuals subordinate to the dictatorship of a new world order," says the hierarch.

He stressed, “By treating any person as a creation of God, we do not humiliate the dignity of the personality of supporters of the LGBT movement. But we condemn the sin and oppose to popularize it as permissiveness with the help of a parade. To sin or not is the right of every person to choose, but our duty as faithful children of God is to convey to the public an understanding of the deadly danger of this sin for the soul. The constitutional right to peaceful assembly cannot extend to the demonstration of the wicked and vice. Using this logic of understanding the law, one can then take the initiative to hold parades of corrupt officials, liars, adulterers, thieves, murderers, etc., because they would also like public approval of their freedom of choice and the opportunity to sin.

Supporting the LGBT movement is another step leading to the destruction of our Motherland, which in its essence is a form of betrayal of state interests. This parade is also a defiant mockery of the historical memory of our ancestors and the desecration of the Zaporozhye Cossacks, whose cradle is our land. The destruction of Sodom, Gomorrah and Pompey is visible evidence of how the depraved life of the inhabitants of these cities ended."

In this regard, the bishop addressed the city authorities with an appeal "not to participate and not to contribute to the spread and popularization of the sin in our city" and calls on all concerned citizens "to openly express their position on this issue".

As reported, earlier in London there was a march against the discrimination faced by black transgender people.
