Ministry of Health: Ukraine gears up to COVID-19 vaccination

Viktor Liashko, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, said that Ukraine is preparing for mass vaccination of the population against COVID-19, reports the "Ukrainian Pravda" publication.
During an online meeting on Ukraine's participation in the COVAX mechanism (mechanism for global access to COVID-19 vaccines – Ed.) Viktor Liashko said that the country will receive a vaccine from the World Health Organization in amounts that will cover 20% of the population.
According to Liashko, the vaccine will be provided at an affordable price or free of charge, which "will reduce the burden on the budget for immunizing other high-risk groups."
The chief medical officer also said that "by participating in the COVAX mechanism, the government will be able to provide access to a licensed safe and effective immunological drug when it becomes available to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic."
Viktor Liashko assured that "preparation at the national level in mass vaccination meets world requirements."
At the same time, according to him, it is impossible to determine so far what kind of vaccine will be: “It is interesting that now leaders are considering vaccines that require two doses (with re-introduction after 3-4 weeks), although the last stage of trials also involves single-dose vaccines. The methods of administration can be both intramuscular and subcutaneous injections,” said Viktor Liashko.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Head of the ROC DECR said that he agreed to test the vaccine against COVID-19 on himself.
