The abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), informed the Ombudsman of Ukraine Dmytro Lubynets about the violation of the right to freedom of conscience, religion and his discriminated rights.
The Ombudsman wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
After the hierarch's appeal, the Ombudsman's Office opened proceedings and sent relevant requests to the Ministry of Culture, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Reserve, the police, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience.
Lubynets recalled the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which refers to the creation of an interdepartmental group on issues related to the activities of religious organizations in Ukraine. A representative of the Ombudsman's Office takes part in the work of this commission.
The commissioner also added that he is always open for communication with representatives of all religions and confessions.
As the UOJ reported, Metropolitan Pavel is under round-the-clock house arrest without the right to visit the Lavra. On the feast of the Annunciation, Metropolitan Pavel celebrated the Liturgy at the place of his imprisonment. On April 6, the abbot's defense challenged the court's decision on the bishop’s arrest.
