The head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, said that Ukrainian authorities have acknowledged that Ukrainian Uniates are related to the Pochayiv Lavra, reports the UGCC website.

According to Shevchuk, state authorities responded to the UGCC's demand to "serve" at the Pochaiv Lavra "very diplomatically".

"The reaction of the authorities was very diplomatic. Everyone listened carefully, but so far they have remained silent," said the head of the Uniates.

According to him, "it is very important that the authorities recognized that the Pochayiv Lavra is historically related to our Church."

He noted that "the miracle-working icon of the Pochaiv Mother of God is crowned with the papal crowns. And this year is the anniversary of this coronation. Greek Catholics should have their place there together with the Orthodox brothers.
