The appointment of Vasyl Maliuk, who had previously been acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), to the post of head of this structure will speed up the creation of a "single Orthodox Church" in the country, said the head of the Volyn Eparchy of the OCU Mykhailo Zinkevych.

According to the eparchy's press service, the "metropolitan" "hopes that this personnel change will give a new impetus to the fight against the propaganda of the 'Russian world' by agents in cassocks".

"This process, which has finally begun, must not be stopped. Those who use the high status of the clergy in covert work for the enemy should be tried to the full extent of the law but should not be allowed to portray them as martyrs. They should be immediately exchanged for our prisoners of war," the press service cites Zinkevych.

"The professional work of the SBU, without going beyond the competence of the state body, will speed up the creation of a single Orthodox Church in Ukraine," the "hierarch" is convinced.

He thanked MP Ihor Huz and other representatives of the Volyn region in the Verkhovna Rada "for the state-oriented position" during Maliuk's appointment as head of the SBU.

As reported, a member of the deputy group "For Future" Ihor Huz addressed the newly appointed SBU chief with a demand to find tougher tools to fight against the "fifth column in cassocks".

Earlier, Vasyl Maliuk said that the UOC is "an environment favourable for the functioning of an enemy residency" and the task of the SBU is to "clean this environment from the enemy presence with the highest possible quality".
