Ihor Huz, a self-nominated deputy, a member of the “For the Future” deputy group, reached out to the newly appointed head of the SBU Vasyl Maliuk with a demand to find tougher tools to combat the “fifth column in cassocks”. The people's deputy told about this on his Instagram page.

“We need to intensify the fight against the fifth column in cassocks and find tougher tools to counter the psychological operation that Russia is dispersing in social networks. <...> The fifth column in cassocks ‘loosened up’ and regains strength. The fight against Moscow’s influence in churches must definitely be continued, because if the Russian core is left there, it will continue to work against Ukraine and the people,” the MP said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.

A member of the For Future parliamentary group praised the authorities for almost succeeding in destroying the information space and changing the political situation (around the Church – Ed.), but he called on the SBU to act more harshly. While Huz was speaking, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Maliuk expressed full agreement with the former’s demand with a nod of his head.

Recall that Igor Huz is a member of the Interim Investigation Commission of the VRU on possible unlawful actions of representatives of state authorities and other persons who could contribute to the violation of state sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and pose a threat to the national security of Ukraine.

As the UOJ reported, Vasyl Maliuk previously stated that the structures of the UOC are "an environment conducive to the functioning of the enemy residency." And the task of the SBU is “to clean this environment from the enemy presence as efficiently as possible.”
