A group of experts, who unveiled the rating of Ukrainians struggling with the coronavirus, believes that a jump in the coronavirus incidence did not occur at the UOC because of effective anti-epidemic measures taken by the hierarchy, the Vesti publication reports.
In particular, the UOC Chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich), occupies the 35th place on the symbolic list, while the measures taken by the UOC hierarchy to control covid-19 were considered effective.
That is why, experts say, one cannot talk about a jump in the incidence of the afflicted believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“One of the main merits in this is Metropolitan Anthony: he organized services for maintaining distance, mask mode, and TV broadcasting. However, persecution could not be avoided: there were arsons and seizures of temples. Meanwhile, the UOC organized charity events – in Kiev, the monks even vacated cells for doctors living in the region,” the publication reiterated.
In addition, in the category “Heroes from the People”, parishes and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were noted for their charitable and social activities in re-profiling sewing workshops for sewing protective masks and distributing them.
The publication’s rating also includes Rostislav Valikhnovsky, the honored doctor of Ukraine, surgeon, public figure and deacon of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who, together with Ternopil Medical University and Andrei Kovalchuk Center, is developing a method for treating coronavirus using mesenchymal stem cells, as well as Vadim Novinsky, the head of the International Charity Foundation in honor of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who allocated over UAH 80 million to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to Metropolitan Anthony, the easing of quarantine announced by the Cabinet of Ministers concerns almost all areas of activity, even circuses, except the Church for some reason.
