Filaret: Epiphany doesn’t need me – he needs my property

Filaret said that the essence of the strife between the OCU and the UOC-KP boils down to the struggle for property. The "patriarch" of the liquidated church organization spoke about this on the air of Hromadske TV.

“What’s the point of the struggle between the OCU, led by Metropolitan Epiphany, and the UOC-KP? It is property,” he said. “Metropolitan Epiphany wants to take possession of the property of the Kiev Patriarchate. Therefore, the crux of the matter boils down to the struggle for property. If I gave it away, then they would not need the patriarch. Thus, they are worried not so much about the spiritual as about the material.”

Filaret is convinced that the “Kiev Patriarchate” owns everything it has owned before.

“They may consider that this is their property, but it does not belong to them but to the Kiev Patriarchate,” he added. “For example, the room we are now in (36 Pushkinskaya St. – Ed.) is the house which was built by me back in 1975. According to the decision of the city council, it is listed as the property of the Kiev Patriarchate. Also, the house at 3/5 Desiatinnaya St. is the property of the Kiev Patriarchate, because it was built with funds together with the investor. They can make any decisions, but we have the documents of title.”

At the same time, Filaret emphasized that there are no court decisions stating that the property of the Kiev Patriarchate belongs to the OCU, but there is only the desire and envy of the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko.

We will remind, earlier Filaret Denisenko, who was forbidden “retroactively” by the OCU to perform ordinations, explained why he does not accept the bans of the OCU.
