On December 21, 2019, the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, declared that the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, could become a man of the year. Hilarion expressed this opinion in an interview with the Russia 24 television channel, Vesti reports.

Metropolitan Hilarion also called the Primate of the UOC "an outstanding pastor".

He recalled that at the beginning of the year, when Patriarch Bartholomew granted the Tomos of autocephaly to the OCU and tremendous pressure was exerted on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry was able to withstand these tests with honor. And together with him – the entire Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Recall, the Georgian hierarch, Metropolitan Seraphim (Jojua), said that the prayer of Metropolitan Onuphry will help Ukraine to hold ground.

In addition, earlier Metropolitan Theodore of Uzhgorod and Mukachevo was named among the most influential people in Transcarpathia.
