His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine

On April 22, 2019, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine congratulated the candidate for President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, on his victory in the elections. The full text of the welcome letter was published by the UOC Information and Education Department.

“On behalf of the plentitude of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and on my own behalf, I cordially congratulate you on your election as President of Ukraine,” the message reads. “Your convincing victory in the elections testifies to the great confidence in you from the Ukrainian society. It is also a sign that the priorities of the country’s development, declared by you, coincide with the hopes and aspirations of our people, who wish our Motherland unity, peace and prosperity, as well as eradicating everything that exacerbates discord and hostility inside the Ukrainian state.”

His Beatitude Onufriy expressed confidence that the newly elected President of Ukraine "will act as a guarantor of the observance by state authorities of the Constitution, the principle of non-interference of the state in the affairs of the Church, defined by the Fundamental Law, as well as the rights and freedoms of believers of all denominations."

“You can rely on the unconditional support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in all matters that will contribute to the establishment and development of the spiritual and moral values of Ukrainian society,” concluded the Primate, wishing the President-elect God’s blessing on his new and responsible way of serving Ukraine and its people.

As the UOJ reported, on April 21, 2019, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine, after the Divine Liturgy, came to the polling station and cast his vote in the second round of the election of the President of Ukraine.
