On December 21, 2018, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine met with the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch at his residence in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.

The meeting was also attended by A. Cooper, a political officer of the Embassy, the language assistant V. Pasechnik, and Protopriest Nikolai Danilevich, deputy head of the UOC DECR.

The Primate discussed with the American diplomat a number of topical issues of church life, church-state relations, as well as the problem of ensuring the right to freedom of religion.

Earlier, the US ambassador to Ukraine congratulated Epiphany on his election as head of the OCU. As the UOJ reported, the StateDept Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said that the United States supports the new church structure created in Ukraine and the freedom of religion should not be obstructed from the outside.
