Head of UOC Law Department: SBU starts to invite bishops to “talks”

Head of the Law Department of the UOC, Protopriest Alexander Bakhov

The cleric explained that there is no such form of communication as “conversation” in the law, and one is better off taking along a lawyer to a “conversation” with the SBU. About this he wrote on his FB page.

According to the clergyman, after the recent events around the UOC, such behavior of Security Service officers of Ukraine “is quite expected, even indicative,” and notes that “the procedural law does not contain such a form of communication as “conversation” or a “talk”. Therefore, dear Graces and Fathers, I doubt that they will talk with you about God! ”

“In this regard, bear in mind! The first and most important thing – do not be afraid! (Rev 2:10) You have the right to know who is calling you, where, why, what for, and what capacity! Do not hesitate to ask to be sent a “letter of invitation” by mail in the manner prescribed by law (Chapter 11 of the Criminal Procedure Code)! ” Father Alexander writes.

He stressed, “It’s better to come to a “conversation” with a lawyer, since everyone has the right to legal assistance (Article 59 of the Constitution of Ukraine).”

The head of the Legal Department of the UOC also reminded that during the "conversation" the citizens of Ukraine have the right not to testify against themselves, family members or close relatives (Article 63 of the Constitution of Ukraine).

“Actually, a ‘good’ investigator before “having a conversation” and while preparing tea should tell you about it. And what if he turns out not that ‘good’? " concludes the cleric.

As the UOJ reported, earlier MP from the BPP, Oleg Barna, said that those wishing to become priests should be checked by the Security Service of Ukraine before their chirotony and explained that the relevant bill was submitted to the parliament a year and a half ago, but because of protests by the believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church never adopted.
