President is thankful to Metropolitan Onufry for his help in release of captives

In the course of the meeting with the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked Metropolitan Onufry for his efforts on the release of captive Ukrainian soldiers. It is reported by the UOC Information and Education Department.

The meeting that took place on September 2 was attended by Deputy Chief of Staff Rostislav Pavlenko, representatives of the Ukrainian army, as well as representatives of religious organizations of Ukraine. Together with Metropolitan Onufry, the vicar of Kyiv Metropolitanate, Archbishop of Irpen Kliment, took part in the meeting.

The participants of the meeting discussed a number of humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting the Ukrainian military. In particular, it was about the need to show mercy to the military, who committed non-violent crimes and were convicted for them.

As a result of the meeting, the President of Ukraine signed a law on pardoning Ukrainian soldiers who committed non-violent crimes.

In his speech to the President, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry spoke about the need for mercy to each person. "By showing mercy, both those who are pardoned and those who pardon are benefited," His Beatitude said.

As it was reported by the UOJ, in Lviv Poroshenko appeared in public to a song about Jesus Christ.
