Kiev-Pechersk Reserve: a threat of sliding is behind (VIDEO)

The process of sliding of the monastery buildings on the territory of Kiev-Pechersk Reserve is stopped, said the director of the reserve Lubomir Mikhaylina at a press briefing of the Ministry of Culture, where officials reported about the state of conservation of World heritage sites: the St. Sophia of Kiev and the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

"Last year, the reserve carried out priority restoration works in the Church of the All Saints Church, which is also known as the Church above the Economical Gate, – said Lubomir Mikhaylina, the director of the National Kiev-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve. – In the vestibule of the church, frescoes, which have long been in an improper state, were restored. Now this work is partially completed and will continue in the coming year."

Lubomir Mikhaylina said that a threatening situation with the walls that are close to the "Honchar Museum" had been prevented. The drain was in a state of emergency, which resulted in the ground and the walls getting slightly wet. The necessary works were carried out, and the threat of flooding of the fortress wall was gone.

The official noted that back in 2011 the Permanent Commission of technogenic and ecological threats at the KCSA recorded an emergency situation due to the sliding of some buildings of the monastery.

"And the reserve and the active monastery were required to conduct research and to provide the documentation for the required work to strengthen the slope, – says Lubomir Mikhaylina. – This work has been carried out. Monitoring, which has been conducted over the past 5 years, shows that the processes are stopped and the threat of sliding is already behind. "
