Patriarch Kirill consecrates Holy Trinity Cathedral in Paris

December 4, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia consecrated the newly-opened Holy Trinity Cathedral in Paris, in the territory of the Russian Orthodox spiritual and cultural center on Quai Branly, reports RIA Novosti.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church led the first Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral. The service in the new cathedral was attended by almost five hundred people.

For the first time the possibility of establishing an Orthodox center in Paris was raised by Patriarch Alexii II, who visited France in October 2007. The old Russian Orthodox Church of Three Saints in Rue Pete is too small and cannot house all the parishioners, especially on days of major Orthodox feasts.

In April 2015 the solemn laying of the first stone of the future center took place, and on October 19, 2016 it was opened.
