Head of UGCC approves no stipends for Ukrainian students

Stipend dispensing policy we have today in Ukraine is a legacy of the Soviet era. It is not featured anywhere else. This position was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk during the interactive program "Open Church" on the "Live TV".

On the one hand, according to the Primate, all students must have adequate social protection and basic means for living and studying. "But nowhere in the world there is such a stipend rate system that we have in Ukraine. Stipends should not just be provided by the government to help students meet their living expenses. A scholarship is always a means to promote development and growth," says the head of the UGCC.

"Financial assistance to students in their training should be an integral part of their education, a reward for high achievemnts in work and study," summed up the head of the UGCC.
