UOC Primate: one should make themselves do what God tells us to rather than what we want

With time such self-restraint will turn into a personal desire. It was told by His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphry on 21 August during the Sunday sermon in Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, according to the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

On this day the Gospel tells about the miracle of the Savior’s walking on waters and rescue of drowning Apostle Peter. According to the Archpastor, this story is very edifying for us, since, among other things, it teaches us to be obedient.

A spiritual life always has to do with self-restraint targeted at obedience. “After a while this self-restraint turns into a personal desire. But at the beginning one should make themselves do what God tells us to rather than what we want,” concluded the Primate.
