Primate of the UOC: evil first strikes the person who bears it

Evil from your hearts should be rooted out by prayer, fasting and reading holy books. His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and all Ukraine said this on the feast day of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

"May the Lord help us to eradicate anger from our hearts, because evil, first and foremost, strikes the person who bears it, and then it extends to those who surround this man," he stressed.

To love God you need to obey commandments and to fight evil in yourself. "When I say that I am a believer, love God and live disregarding the Divine law, I deceive myself and others," said His Beatitude Onuphry.

"To root out evil from our hearts we must pray, fast and read holy books, – noted the Archpastor. – Doing so, we drive evil away from us and try to keep to what is good."
