Administration of President Refuses to Award the Head of Kyiv Patriarchate the Title Hero of Ukraine
The Administration of President of Ukraine has refused to award the star of Hero of Ukraine to the head of the Kyiv Patriarchate Filaret (Denisenko), reported Glavcom.
A number of politicians and representatives of the Ukrainian intelligentsia appealed to the Head of State with the proposal, "to honor Patriarch Filaret on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his episcopal ministry at the Kyiv Chair." As it was reported, Petro Poroshenko came to celebrate the occasion, congratulated the hero of the day and left the meeting immediately.
In 1992, former Exarch of Ukraine went into schism and headed the self-proclaimed Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate. In the same year he was excommunicated.
